The Long Beach Police Department is investigating after what initially appeared to be a man's suicide on Friday was in reality a homicide.
The victim, a 72-year-old man, died inside his home in the 4700 block of Greenmeadow Road, police said in a news release.
When officers arrived at the home at 8:22 p.m., the man was "lying inside his residence with a gunshot wound to the upper body that appeared to be self-inflicted" and declared dead at the scene.
Detectives and the Department of the Medical Examiner, however, "determined the wound was not self-inflicted."
Investigators are now working to determine a possible motive, suspected shooter and what happened in the moments leading up to the fatal attack.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Detectives Eric Thai or Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7244.
