A murder investigation is underway into the shooting of a homeless man found slain in Long Beach Tuesday night.
Officers responded to the 800 block of Alamitos Avenue regarding what was described as a "hit shooting," the Long Beach Police Department stated in a news release.
Arriving officers found 36-year-old Kendell Williams with at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
Officers rendered medical aid but Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. Police said Williams was experiencing homelessness.
Homicide detectives responded to take over the investigation but no further details about the circumstances around the shooting or the motive have been released.
The suspect, or suspects, fled the scene before officers arrived. No descriptions were available.
Detectives are asking for additional witnesses to come forward.
