ST. LOUIS - After overcoming a pocket of dry air, snow that has been falling in central and northeast Missouri overnight is starting to spread east.
While not a major snow with lighter snowfall rates in the metro, the heaviest snow will fall at the worst possible time, from 4am through 10am, heading right into the morning rush.
Roads, especially those still sloppy from the storm earlier this week, will range from slushy to snow covered. It continues to look like metro STL and points north will see about 2 inches. We’re still looking at a swath of heavier accumulations south of metro STL, 2 to 4 inches on target from St. James to Potosi, Festus, Sparta, over towards Mount Vernon.
The heaviest snow will fall south of there, across Dent, Reynolds, Iron, Madison, and southern Perry Counties in Missouri and towards Carbondale in Illinois. This zone will see 4 to 6 inches. These southern areas are ones that were hardest hit by ice earlier this week. We’ll see if the weight of added snow will cause more power outage trouble.
Accumulating snow will transition pockets of snow showers Friday afternoon with little if any additional accumulation. Flurries will linger through the evening. Look for temps around 30 F throughout the day, meaning salt and brine on roads should be able to be effective.
The weather pattern gets quieter for Saturday and beyond. A few snow flurries cannot be ruled out Sunday night. We turn a bit colder again Monday and Tuesday.
