A Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer was rushed to the hospital after going down in northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway in the Sepulveda Pass.
Details are extremely limited and it’s unclear exactly what caused the crash, but authorities said the incident occurred just after 4 p.m. near Skirball Center Drive.
Aerial footage of the scene captured by Sky5 showed a massive traffic backup as first responders, including medical personnel with the Los Angeles Fire Department surrounded the officer who was laying in lanes of traffic on a stretcher.
Paramedics were treating the officer, whose current condition was not immediately available, before loading him into an ambulance.
Sky5’s Gil Leyvas reported that lanes of traffic on the northbound 405 were completely shut down, with the backup stretching at least all the way to the 10 Freeway.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol were also on the scene in response to the closure.
It is unknown how long northbound lanes will remain closed.
