Kids can ski free at Winter Park, Steamboat during one week in December

Alterra Mountain Company, which operates 19 ski resorts in North America including two in Colorado, will offer free skiing for kids during the second week of December.

The Denver-based resort company made the announcement Monday. It owns Steamboat and operates Winter Park, which is owned by the city of Denver. It owns 15 other conventional ski resorts and two heli-skiing operations in British Columbia. It is also the company that markets Ikon passes.

Kids can receive a free lift ticket for daily use from Dec. 7-13, and they don’t need to be accompanied by a paying adult. No other purchase is necessary. To take advantage of the offer, visitors should go through the website of the participating resort or visit Guest Services at the resort. Steamboat is linked here, and Winter Park is linked here.

“Winter is here and we want to help families get on the mountain this season,” Alterra chief executive Jared Smith said in the news release.

“We hope Kids Ski Free Week ignites an excitement around skiing and snowboarding and helps start a lifelong passion the entire family can enjoy for years to come,” he added.
