Keystone, A-Basin open Saturday for ski season
Keystone is the first resort on the Epic Pass to open for the 2024/2025 season. Arapahoe Basin opened Saturday, just days after the first Colorado resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area.
KEYSTONE, Colo. (KDVR) — More Colorado ski resorts opened on Saturday for the season.
Keystone is the first resort on the Epic Pass to open for the 2024/2025 season. Arapahoe Basin opened Saturday, just days after the first Colorado resort, Wolf Creek Ski Area.
"It's all thanks to the hard work of our snow making team and our state-of-the-art snow making equipment. We are actually able to sense the wet bulb temperature in real-time and make snow whenever those conditions allow. This is earliest we could do that," said Maxwell Winter of Keystone Resort.
The first person in line for the Red River Gondola Saturday morning said he arrived at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Some riders were worried about the recent temperatures.
"Kind of got a little antsy there. It was a little bit warm there for the last couple of weeks, but we've had some really good cold weather, and that allowed them to get the snow on the hill. Didn't get a lot open but this is beautiful," said rider Shawn Daws.
Keystone said over two miles and 45 acres are open starting Saturday, just one day later than last year's opening day.
"Before you know it, you'll be skiing out on North Peak again and we're going to have hundreds of acres open in no time," said Winter.
