Jay Cutler Was on 'Lucky' Hunting Trip in Kentucky Just Before DUI Arrest

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was on a hunting trip in Kentucky days before his DUI arrest. 

Cutler, 41, was charged with driving under the influence on Thursday, October 17 and booked at the Williamston County Jail in Franklin, Tennessee, Us Weekly can confirm. He was also charged with failure to exercise due care, violation of implied consent law and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

According to documents, Cutler rear-ended another vehicle and appeared to be drunk when he was pulled over by law enforcement. He reportedly refused a field sobriety test, but was taken to a hospital where a  blood sample was obtained. A report of Cutler’s blood-alcohol levels at the time of his arrest has been made public. 

In the days leading up to his arrest, footage on social media showed Cutler on a deer hunting trip in the neighboring state.

“Last night, ran up to Kentucky,” Cutler said in a video posted via Instagram on Wednesday, October 16. “The weather dropped a little bit, the temperature, pressure was high and the deer that I’ve been hunting had been showing up the last two evenings. We figured with the temperature dropping we might come out a little bit earlier.”

According to the Instagram video, which was posted by Cutler’s apparel and lifestyle brand Outsider, the ex-Chicago Bears star had been on the hunt for a 5-and-a-half-year-old whitetail deer named Slim. 

“He came out really early, about 5:15 [a.m.],” Cutler continued. “Ran across the field chasing after some does. Ran off a few spikes and then came back again out of range chasing some more deer. Finally got within range about 6:00-ish. And smoked him.”

Cutler said the deer, who Outsider had been tracking for years, weighed in at 185 pounds.

“Jay got lucky last night in Kentucky!,” the Instagram caption read.

The following day, however, Cutler was behind bars. He posted bond several hours later and was released. 

Cutler has not commented on the arrest.

An avid hunter, Cutler launched Outsider in 2020, three years after his 12-year NFL career came to an end. 

According to its website, Outsider prides itself on creating “a community of like-minded enthusiasts, sharing experiences and narratives that celebrate the richness and diversity of the great outdoors.”

The brand also sells a variety of hats, drinkware, sweatshirts and accessories. 

Cutler was previously married to reality star and podcaster Kristin Cavallari from 2013 to 2020 — the couple share sons Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10 and daughter Saylor, 8. The former couple share joint custody of the three children.
