Jaws of life brought in for fatal crash on southbound I-5: CHP
A fatal crash on southbound Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton prompted a full roadway closure Wednesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A fatal crash on southbound Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton prompted a full roadway closure Wednesday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred between Exit 62 (Las Pulgas) and Exit 54C (CR-521 Coast Highway) around 1:30 a.m. All lanes were closed for several hours as first responders worked the scene.
According to a CHP SigAlert, the jaws of life, otherwise known as hydraulic rescue tools, were called to the crash site. A medical airlift helicopter also arrived at the scene, along with officials from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office.
It's unknown at this time how many people were involved in the crash. No further details were immediately provided. FOX 5/KUSI is working to gather more information.
All lanes have since reopened in the impacted area.
