Initial results show challengers leading District 3 race, District 5 race for DuPage County Board
Election results for DuPage County Board district 3 and 5, which encompass parts of Naperville and Aurora.
With the first round of votes counted, Republican challenger Baron Leacock is leading in the race for the District 3 seat on the DuPage County Board, while Democratic challenger Saba Haider is ahead in the contest for District 5.
Initial results released just after 8 p.m. Tuesday for the District 3 race show Leacock with 19,845 votes and Democratic incumbent Lucy Chang Evans with 17,571 votes. For District 5, Haider so far had 16,448 votes and Republican incumbent Patty Gustin had 13,652 votes.
The first bout of unofficial results released after polls closed Tuesday consisted only of those from early voting. No votes cast Election Day or through mail-in ballots were included yet.
District 3 covers much of southeastern DuPage, including the Naperville neighborhoods of University Heights, Cinnamon Creek and Green Ridge Estates.
Evans, of Naperville, has represented District 3 since 2022. She previously served as a U.S. Secret Service agent in the early 2000s and later worked for the county as a stormwater management project engineer from 2014 to 2020.
Challenger Leacock grew up in Darien and currently lives in Hinsdale, according to his campaign website. He has worked in several industries, including real estate development, tax consulting and tech startups, his website says.
District 5 comprises most of Naperville and sections of Aurora in DuPage.
Gustin was first elected to the District 5 seat in 2022. She previously served two terms on the Naperville City Council from 2015 to 2022. Professionally, Gustin is a licensed managing broker.
Challenger Haider currently serves on the DuPage County Health Department’s Public Health Board. A resident of Aurora, Haider is a small business owner.
Election results will be updated through the night Tuesday as votes are tabulated.
