Illness explains Patriots WR DeMario Douglas’ lack of snaps vs. Jaguars

LONDON — The reduced role for Patriots wide receiver DeMario Douglas on Sunday against the Jaguars at Wembley Stadium was finally explained late in the third quarter when he was ruled questionable to return with an illness.

Douglas only played 19 of the Patriots’ first 38 offensive snaps, per PFF’s in-game tracking. He caught two passes for 14 yards on the Patriots’ opening drive.

The second-year pro’s decrease is snaps has led to more playing time for K.J. Osborn, Kendrick Bourne, Ja’Lynn Polk and Kayshon Boutte.

Douglas was Drake Maye’s favorite targets in Week 6, the rookie QB’s first start. The Patriots got out to a 10-0 lead on the Jaguars and have missed Douglas since the opening two drives.

Cornerback Marcus Jones and wide receiver Javon Baker both dealt with illnesses this week. Jones dressed Sunday, while Baker missed practice Friday and was among the team’s inactives.
