DENVER (KDVR) — Westbound traffic on Interstate 70 stood a standstill on Wednesday after a semi-trailer appeared to have jackknifed on the roadway.
The roadway was closed from Exit 173 and Exit 171, or between West Vail and Minturn.
The Colorado Department of Transportation reported a 64-minute delay as of 3:21 p.m., up from about 50 minutes just after 3 p.m.
Traffic had piled up back to milepost 175. The roadway appeared clear and mostly dry, with clear, sunny skies.
There was no word on injuries as of 3:30 p.m.
CDOT implemented a detour at about 3:30, sending motorists onto Highway 91 south to Leadville, then connecting with Highway 24 north into Vail, reconnecting with I-70 there.
Highway 91 was snow-packed in places, with tire tracks breaking through the snow to the pavement. CDOT does not have cameras on Highway 24.
