DENVER (KDVR) — Interstate 70 was closed both westbound and eastbound near Vail Pass on Sunday afternoon as heavy snow covered the roadways and the Colorado Department of Transportation reported at least one crash.

According to CDOT, the roadway was closed westbound from Vail Pass Summit (Exit 190) to East Vail (Exit 180), about three miles west of Copper Mountain. The roadway was also closed between Exit 180 and 190 eastbound.

Not much was visible on CDOT roadway cameras as of 3:30 p.m., but traffic appeared to be basically at a standstill and some emergency lights could be seen at various points.

The Colorado State Patrol said that troopers were called out to westbound I-70 near Copper Mountain at about 2:40 p.m. The agency said it did not yet know how many vehicles were involved, but no serious injuries were reported.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is obtained.
