DENVER (KDVR) — The University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes' football team has seen a resurgence in the 2024 college football season.
Spearheaded by Head Coach, Deion Sanders, otherwise known as "Coach Prime," this year's talented Buffs team which includes Sanders' two sons; quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, and safety, Shilo Sanders, has flipped the program on its head after finishing 4-8 last season.
Sitting at 6-1 in Big-12 Conference play and 8-2 overall, the Buffs have set themselves up well to pursue success come post-season.
One player who is integral to the team's success is the dual-threat, Travis Hunter. Hunter suits up on both sides of the ball every game, playing as both a wide receiver and cornerback.
His stellar two-way play has contributed to his status as a Heisman Trophy contender. In fact, he has been playing so well, that he has assumed the position of the Heisman favorite according to the most recent Heisman Trophy Ranking by ESPN.
Hunter is sitting atop the list which includes four other players:

- Ashton Jeanty, Boise State Broncos, RB: +600 odds
- Cam Ward, Miami Hurricanes, QB: +850 odds

Before Hunter finds out his fate as a Heisman contender several steps must happen.
Heisman Trophy selection starting process
The Heisman Trophy Trust selects six Sectional Representatives who will each represent their section, broken into the Far West, Southwest, Midwest, South, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
Each of those sections will place 145 media votes, which totals 870 media votes altogether.
To distribute the votes, the Sectional Representatives will appoint State Representatives who are responsible for allocating the 145 votes to sports journalists across the states in each section. States with larger populations are designated more votes, much like the Electoral College.
All former Heisman Trophy winners, currently sitting at 57 people, will receive a vote as well.
A final vote was given to the fans, who vote for a majority candidate, with the majority winner receiving one Heisman vote.
These votes bring the total number of Heisman Trophy votes to 928.
