How did Bronny James do in his G League debut?

The most highly anticipated debut in the history of the G League, the NBA's developmental "minor" league, happened on Saturday night and the results are encouraging to teammates.

LeBron "Bronny" James Jr., the son of the legendary all-time leading scorer of the NBA, suited up for the South Bay Lakers for the first time on Saturday with his dad and Los Angeles Lakers teammate Anthony Davis and head coach JJ Redick in attendance.

James' statline, perhaps underwhelming, was still encouraging for the 18-year-old. In 31 minutes of action, James scored 6 points on 2-for-9 shooting from the field. He was also 0-for-4 from three with four assists.

The 6-foot-3 guard, known as more of a defensive specialist, shined more as a defender against the Salt Lake City Stars. He had three rebounds, two steals and a block as South Bay defeated Salt Lake City 110-96.

Teammates are encouraged by the start for the former USC Trojan.

"I was just happy to see him get out there and show the world that he can play," guard Quincy Olivari said, according to ESPN. "I think I'm a big advocate on pushing that he's a great basketball player and that the criticism he gets is unfair."

The reported plan for Bronny is for him to shuttle back-and-forth between the South Bay and L.A. Lakers as the franchise sees fit. He'll only appear in South Bay's home games.

James scored four points across 14 minutes of game action for the L.A. Lakers in five games this season.
