Police from across the state joined a solemn honor procession to celebrate Endicott College Police Sgt. Jeremy Cole, who was killed by a suspected drunk, wrong-way driver in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning.
Cole, 49, was traveling home from his job on the college campus in Beverly to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family when he was struck head-on by a driver in a Tesla speeding the wrong way on Interstate 495 in Newbury.
“He was a wonderful man, loving father, proud family man and a protector of our campus. We miss him dearly,” said Endicott Police Chief Kerry Ramsdell.
The honor procession took place at Campbell Funeral Home in Beverly immediately prior to Cole’s wake Monday.
A 40-year-old New Bedford man has been charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor and operating recklessly and manslaughter, among other charges, for the wrong-way crash.
