SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority has approved the renovation of the historic building at 3 State Street. The four-story structure was built in 1900 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Board approved a $25,000 façade grant and a sales tax exemption for the building supplies used to renovate the building. The building will be fully renovated by J&J Apartments LLC, a development company founded by Joe Johnson and Jeff McDonald, who own businesses in Troy and Niskayuna, respectively.
"Three State Street is the first building you see on State Street as you enter Schenectady from Scotia,” said Metroplex Chair Ray Gillen. “We thank Joe Johnson and Jeff McDonald for preserving this piece of Schenectady’s history."
The development company will be turning the property into 17 market-rate apartments. Metroplex said all of the approvals are in place and exterior renovations have already started.
