High volume of St. Louis County senior property tax freeze applications causes program to pause
St. Louis County officials announced that their senior property tax freeze program will be put on pause for a few days following a higher number of applications than what the software can stand.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - St. Louis County officials announced that their senior property tax freeze program will be put on pause for a few days following a higher number of applications than what the software can stand.
Communications officers say software developers will be working on the system to make necessary upgrades after receiving over 30,000 applications since Oct. 1.
Applications for the tax freeze will be paused beginning Wednesday at 5 p.m. and is expected to reopen 8 a.m. Monday.
“We apologize for the inconvenience, but this is the unintended consequence of standing
up what has been a very popular program,” Director of Revenue Tony Smee said in a release. “The demand is great, and we now need to improve the customer service experience.”
The county says anyone with appointments scheduled with the Department of Revenue should keep their appointment.
The application deadline for the senior property tax freeze in St. Louis County is June 30, 2025.
