High school football: Lakeville South avenges Week 1 loss to Wayzata in playoff opener

Lakeville South 41, Wayzata 21: That’s five straight wins for Lakeville South (6-3) as Connor Cade ran in three touchdowns — including scores of 50 and 70 yards — and Bo Bokman broke loose for a 72-yard run of his own as the Cougars avenged a Week 1 loss to the Trojans.

The game was tied at 14-14 before Cade’s 70-yard run in the final minute of the first half, the first of four consecutive scores for Lakeville South.

The Cougars will travel to Anoka next week with a trip to state on the line. The Tornadoes dispatched Roseville 49-6 on Friday as Zach Welch ran for three scores.

Champlin Park 24, East Ridge 22: Preston Thielke ran 77 yards for a touchdown to put the Rebels (4-5) in front early and added two passing touchdowns from there.

Cedric Tomes ran for a score and threw for another for East Ridge (5-4), but Rebels’ kicker Evan Swanstrom nailed a 31-yard field goal with less than two minutes to play to put Champlin Park up nine points and effectively ice the game.

Champlin Park will travel to Lakeville North next week. The Panthers downed Hopkins 50-7 as Riley Grossman threw for four scores and Sam Ripplinger ran for 162 yards and three touchdowns.

Eagan 28, Osseo 20: Eagan trailed 14-9 at the half and 20-15 after three quarters, but the Wildcats (6-3) scored the final 13 points of the game — a 94-yard kickoff return touchdown by Gage Halvorson late in the third to take the lead, followed by a 5-yard touchdown run from Brooklyn Evans early in the final frame to extend the lead to two scores.

Eagan will host Edina in Round 2 next week.
