Friday is opening day at the Snow Summit resort in Big Bear and skiers and snowboarders arrived early to make the most of it.
“It’s all about the first chair,” said one man who was at the resort with his family at 6:30 a.m. already waiting for the lifts to open.
Snow Summit will actually open at 9 a.m. Friday with lifts running until 4 p.m.
The resort is making snow in anticipation of the grand opening but the area also received a few inches of natural snow last weekend.
“When we got here. It was so beautiful to see that snow blanketing the whole entire area,” KTLA’s Annie Rose Ramos said minutes before making a new friend and a snow angel.
Tickets and season passes can be purchased on the Big Bear Mountain Resort website.
A storm headed to Southern California may bring more snow to the resort, which is at an elevation of 8,200 feet. The National Weather Service on Thursday said the snow level should drop to around 8,000 feet.
Sister resort Bear Mountain has yet to announce when it will open but over in Wrightwood, Mountain High will open to the general public on Saturday.
Snow Valley in Running Springs is scheduled to open on Nov. 29.
