Hayward teen arrested in fatal shooting of 15-year-old boy

(KRON) -- The Hayward Police Department has announced an arrest in a shooting last summer that left a 15-year-old boy dead. Officers responded to reports of a possible shooting just before 2 a.m. near the 2400 block of Second Street on June 26, 2024.

At the scene, officers located the victim, a 15-year-old boy from Rodeo, who was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, a 13-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds, was also located. He was given treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at a hospital and later released.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified a suspect in the shooting. On Wednesday, detectives authored and executed a search warrant near the 2100 block of Mission Boulevard and took the suspect into custody.

Hayward PD identified the suspect as a 17-year-old Hayward resident. He was booked into juvenile hall for murder. Police are not releasing his name at this time due to his age.
