AUSTIN (KXAN) -- It's the most wonderful time of the year: H-E-B officials confirmed the grocer's new South Congress storefront will open this December.

H-E-B will open its location at 2400 S. Congress Ave. on Dec. 4 at 6 a.m., company officials confirmed Monday. The company first shared plans back in December 2021 to demolish its original Congress store, which first opened in 1957.

H-E-B has been operating out of a temporary space at the Twin Oaks Shopping Center, located at 2301 S. Congress Ave.

The new, multi-level store stands at more than 145,000 square feet, with a ground level that features indoor and outdoor dining areas, a second level hosting the grocer's array of products and three levels of above-ground parking for customers. The store will also feature a True Texas BBQ, curbside and home delivery services, a pharmacy and accompanying drive-thru and local art installations to celebrate the South Congress area's art and cultural legacy.

“Our vision has always been to create a store that our customers will be proud of, an iconic location that reflects the personality and vibrancy of the South Congress community,” said Cathy Harm, H-E-B Group Vice President Central Texas, in the announcement. “This store is an important part of this neighborhood, and we hope this new design conveys the deep gratitude we have for our loyal customers who have supported our business for more than 60 years.”

More details on the new store are available online.
