Greenfield woman sentenced 5 years for assaulting a cop

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A Saratoga County judge sentenced a Greenfield woman convicted of assault on Tuesday. The Saratoga County District Attorney's office said Theresa Travis, 44, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault in October for the hit-and-run of a Saratoga Springs Police Department officer.

On June 18, Officer Adam Dingmon of the Saratoga Springs Police Department was performing a traffic stop on Travis's vehicle. After she couldn't provide a license or registration of the car, lying about her name and date of birth, Digmon asked Travis to step out of the vehicle.

Court officials said Travis had put her vehicle in drive and pulled it away quickly, dragging Dingmon along the roadway before being slammed to the ground. At her sentencing, Dingmon spoke about the life-changing consequences he has to endure because of Travis' actions.

Court officials added that Travis escaped sentencing in Saratoga and Schenectady County Court in 2023 for driving ability impaired by drugs. Police arrested her after finding her hiding in a crawlspace under a relative's home in Warrensburg.

Travis also received a sentence of one to three years in prison for being convicted of driving while ability impaired by drugs. Both sentences will run concurrently, followed by three years of probation.
