Golden State Valkyries unveil uniforms ahead of inaugural WNBA season

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Golden State Valkyries won’t take the court for their inaugural 2025 season until May 16, but fans are getting an early look at the WNBA team’s uniforms which were unveiled Thursday. A scavenger hunt and other celebrations are also planned throughout the day, the team announced.

Fierce, bold and strong. That’s how Kimberly Veale, the Valkyries' senior vice president of marketing and communications, described the newly unveiled uniforms. The jerseys feature the team’s logo highlighting the Bay Bridge, with the bridge’s tower forming a sword and the suspension cables forming wings. According to Valkyries, the uniforms represent the team’s presence across Oakland, where the team is headquartered, and San Francisco, where the team will play home games at the Chase Center.

There are two versions of the inaugural uniform. The WNBA Nike Explorer Edition is a black jersey with violet accents and the WNBA Nike Heroine Edition is a white jersey. The Valkyries’ sponsors, JPMorgan Chase and Kaiser Permanente, are prominently featured on the uniforms.

Those two sponsors are hosting a scavenger hunt in San Francisco and Oakland on Thursday, according to the team. Jerseys will be hidden at local businesses and fans can participate by following the Valkyries’ social media accounts. In a post to Facebook at 7 a.m., the location was set to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, perhaps offering the first hint.

The Salesforce Tower and Chase Center are set to be lit up violet Thursday night in celebration of the team’s uniform unveiling.

On Monday, GSV announced their inaugural season schedule. Golden State is slated to play the Los Angeles Sparks at the Chase Center in their debut game on May 16, 2025.
