Go take a hike: Minnesota boasts best trail in US

You don’t need to trek the Appalachian Trail to experience the best hiking in the country. Just head up to the North Shore. Devil’s Kettle Trail in Judge C.R. Magney State Park has been named the nation’s top hiking trail, KARE 11 reports. The two-mile roundtrip hike, near Grand Marais, features “a waterfall that splits in two, and half the water disappears into an underground abyss.”

Hikers will have nearly 250 more acres to explore in Stearns County when Chain of Lakes County Park opens. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, the park is “within walking distance of Cold Spring and fronts on the Sauk River, which connects nearby Knaus Lake with more than a dozen others that total more than 80 miles of continuous shoreline. Future plans include a boat landing, picnic shelter with bathrooms, a fishing pier and availability for primitive camping.”

If you can make the hike all the way to International Falls, Voyageurs National Park — Minnesota’s only national park — is set to have a grand opening for its new Crane Lake Visitors Center, Outdoor News reports.
