GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- After returning four of five starters from last year's state championship squad, the Glens Falls boys basketball team had high hopes coming into this season of repeating in Class A.

The Black Bears are taking their quest for state supremacy one game at a time, and appreciating every milestone along the way. That includes winning the Foothills Council, which they did Monday night with a 78-59 victory over Amsterdam.

"I think too many people take league championships for granted," said Glens Falls head coach Rob Girard. "It's not easy. There's so many schools that don't have league championships. We've done it quite a few times, and I think people take it for granted. "Celebrate it." That's what I'm trying to tell the kids. It's an awesome achievement."

With the win, Glens Falls improves to 17-0 on the season, 13-0 in the Foothills and continues to hold down the No. 1 ranking in the state for Class A. The Black Bears have also now won 44 straight games dating back to last season.

Glens Falls was led Monday by senior forward Kellen Driscoll, who turned in a game-high 33 points.

Driscoll played a crucial role in helping his team pull away from a talented Amsterdam unit out of Class AA that only trailed the Black Bears 16-15 after the first quarter. In the second stanza, Driscoll singlehandedly outscored the Rams 15-10, helping Glens Falls to a 37-25 halftime advantage.

"Our shots just weren't fallin' from outside, so I kinda felt like I had to take over a little bit," said Driscoll. "When it's all clicking [for me] - the outside shot, I can get to the basket - it feels great; feels unguardable really."

The Black Bears opened up a 16-point lead early in the third quarter, but Amsterdam clawed its way back into the game. A three-pointer from Aundray Fowler brought the Rams within nine midway through the quarter.

But Glens Falls countered with a 17-6 run over the last four minutes of the quarter, and maintained a 61-41 lead going into the final stanza, where they cruised to victory.

Driscoll was one of four Black Bears to reach double figures in scoring. Brody Holcomb recorded 16 points, Oscar Lilac turned in 13 and Aiden Prunty added 11.

Three Rams put together double-digit scoring efforts. Fowler led the team with 16 points, Rocco Natale went for 11 and Dominick Agresta tallied 10.

Glens Falls has just three games left on its regular season slate. Next up is Schuylerville, which comes to town Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Amsterdam falls to 10-5, 9-3 in-league, and will have to regroup quickly. The Rams hit the road Tuesday to battle South Glens Falls at 7:00 p.m.
