Giants’ Tommy DeVito expects to return soon from forearm injury

Tommy DeVito expects to be back soon.
Dealing with a forearm injury, the second-year Giants quarterback said he believes he would have been able to play against the Cowboys had the game been on a Sunday and not a Thursday.
Instead, he served as the Giants’ emergency quarterback in the 27-20 loss on Thanksgiving as Drew Lock got the start.
“Structurally, everything was good,” DeVito said after Thursday’s game. “Just could not get ready for the Thursday.”
DeVito got the first crack at replacing Daniel Jones, who was released last week.
He started and finished Sunday’s 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but repeatedly took big hits and showed up on the Giants’ injury report on Tuesday.
DeVito said Thursday that he hasn’t gotten a sense of whether he’ll return as the starter once he’s healthy enough to play.
Head coach Brian Daboll was similarly non-committal.
“We just got done playing here,” Daboll said. “We have a few days to go back and watch this game. I thought Drew did some good stuff, but, you know, two big turnovers.”
Lock completed 21-of-32 passes for 178 yards with a pick-six and rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on four carries but lost a fumble against the Cowboys.
He, too, declined to speculate on his future as the starter.
“I’m not thinking about that right now,” Lock said. “I’m going to leave here, get on the plane and watch tape to see what I could have done better. Learn from it. Grow. If the opportunity comes again, then be ready to play and play better than we did today.”
