Fort Ann man faces charges in fatal two-car crash in August
The Washington County Sheriff's Office has completed an investigation in connection with a Fort Ann man following a fatal car crash in August.

FORT ANN, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Washington County Sheriff's Office has completed an investigation in connection with a Fort Ann man following a fatal car crash in August. Nicholas J. Normile, 29, of Fort Ann faces multiple charges, including one filed just this month.
On Aug. 7, 2024, Normile allegedly stole a vehicle from a relative and, minutes later, collided with another car on Tripoli Road in the town of Fort Ann. The driver of the other car, Merrilee Howard, 75, of Fort Ann reportedly sustained severe injuries after the collision. Police said she was transported to Albany Medical Center where she died days later due to her injuries.
At the time of his arrest in August, Normile was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree grand larceny. Now, following an investigation into the incident, police announced that an additional felony charge has been filed by the Town of Fort Ann Court.
All Charges:
- Driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor
- Third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony
- Criminally negligent homicide, a class E felony
Normile is scheduled to appear in Washington County Court at a later date, according to police.
