FLORISSANT, Mo. – In the aftermath of last week’s heavy rains and flooding, St. Louis area residents spent Sunday clearing out flood-damaged items, aided by the city of Florissant’s cleanup initiative.
To support those affected, the city provided dumpsters at St. Ferdinand Park on St. Ferdinand Park Drive, where residents could discard ruined items from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. over the weekend.
The disposal site saw a constant flow of people unloading items, including waterlogged mattresses, furniture, and even cherished belongings. Over eight dumpsters were full by Sunday night, reflecting the significant damage that local homes and properties had sustained.
The city’s Streets Department and Health Department coordinated the event, with Mayor Timothy Lowery authorizing the collaborative effort to help residents manage the overwhelming cleanup. Officials noted the success of the partnership, and residents expressed appreciation for the city’s prompt response. City employees kept the area clean and accessible by managing additional waste near the dumpsters.
