Firefighters extinguished a brush fire along the northbound 405 Freeway in Granada Hills on Monday.
It’s unclear exactly when or how the brusher alongside the roadway started, but Sky5 captured the heavy smoke and visible flames at around 4 p.m.
Crews had yet to respond as the flames quickly spread up the hillside when Sky5 arrived on the scene, though they arrived moments later.
Preliminary reports suggested the half-acre fire was not threatening structures, though firefighters were reportedly worried about embers spreading downrange. Fortunately, Memorial Park Cemetery on the other side of the fire appeared to act as a natural fire break.
At around 4:30 p.m. firefighters gained an upper hand on the blaze and appeared to have it under control.
The blaze broke out during yet another Santa Ana wind event, which prompted red flag warnings lasting through Tuesday evening.
Motorists on the northbound 405 Freeway in Granada Hills were backed up to the 118 Freeway crews worked to extinguish the brush fire and clean up any remaining hot spots.
