Fifth person slain in Oakland during violent New Year

OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- A fifth person was slain in Oakland during a violent New Year, according to the Oakland Police Department. The shooting death Wednesday evening comes after one person was killed earlier in the day and three people were killed Tuesday. No arrests have been made in connection to the separate incidents.

The wave of violence in the city started on New Year’s Eve and didn’t end until close to 5:30 p.m. on New Year’s Day when a person was shot on the 1200 block of 65th Avenue. Oakland officers arrived and located the victim wounded from gunfire. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Earlier on New Year’s Day, a person was fatally shot on the 2400 block of 24th Avenue at around 3:15 a.m., OPD said.

On New Year’s Eve, a quadruple shooting at around 10:10 p.m. left one person dead and three injured, police said. In another incident at 7:15 p.m., a person was stabbed to death. Earlier Tuesday morning, one person was shot and killed in West Oakland, police said.

Police have not released any information on possible suspects or motives in any of the killings.

The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
