(KRON) -- A fatal pedestrian collision Thursday morning on eastbound Interstate 80 near Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield has closed all lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Interstate 80 is closed between Travis Boulevard and Air Base Parkway due to the fatal crash, the Fairfield Police Department said. Eastbound traffic is being diverted off of I-80 as of 4:55 a.m. and surface streets of Fairfield are being impacted along Air Base Pkwy., North Texas Street and Travis Blvd.
A preliminary investigation from CHP indicated that a pedestrian ran into traffic on eastbound I-80 and was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian suffered major injuries in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene, CHP said.
The roadway is expected to reopen at around 8 a.m., CHP estimated. Authorities are advising motorists to use alternative routes and expect delays during the morning commute.
