Far-right influencer Nick Fuentes charged with battery of Berwyn woman
Far-right influencer Nick Fuentes is facing a misdemeanor battery charge after a woman accused him of pepper spraying her and pushing her down the front steps of his Berwyn home last month. Marla Rose filed the criminal complaint last week against Fuentes, who was arrested, fingerprinted and released Nov. 27, according to documents filed Wednesday with the Cook County Circuit Court Clerk's Office. The complaint alleges that Fuentes, 26, "knowingly made physical contact of an insulting nature" with Rose, a 57-year-old writer and co-founder of a vegan lifestyle website. She previously told the Sun-Times the Nov. 10 encounter happened as she approached Fuentes' front door to confront him about a social media post after the presidential election in which Fuentes declared, "Your body, my choice. Forever," in reference to abortion rights. Rose said she decided to go to Fuentes' home after his address leaked online and she realized they both live in Berwyn. Before Rose could ring the doorbell, Fuentes opened the door and allegedly sprayed her with what she thinks was pepper spray. Rose recorded the incident on her phone, which Fuentes then allegedly grabbed and took into his home. Berwyn police later retrieved it. Fuentes, a white supremacist and Holocaust denier who has praised Adolf Hitler, is a Lyons Township High School graduate. He's previously dined with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Fuentes hung up on a reporter Friday afternoon. He alluded to his arrest in social media posts, including one apparently of his own mugshot. In a statement last month, Fuentes said: “Don’t show up at somebody’s front door looking to cause problems.”Rose said in an email that she is also planning to file civil litigation against Fuentes. She couldn't immediately be reached for further comment. Fuentes' first court date is scheduled for Dec. 19 in Maywood.
