ST. LOUIS - With even more snow and ice now on the ground across the greater St. Louis metro area, slick road conditions don’t appear to be going anywhere.

FOX 2 caught up with local towing service Beeline Towing and Recovery and the American Automobile Association for expert advice on what you should do in the event you end up stuck on the side of the road.

The experts say first, after you call for help, try to remain calm as crews head your way. Clayton Moore with Beeline says they try to communicate exactly how far away they are so customers can feel assured help is on the way.

“It's called KMI: Keep the member informed or keep the customer informed,” he said. “So, we give them a call as we're approaching, letting them know how far we are away and how long we will be. That tends to calm them down.”

AAA Spokesperson Nick Chabarria advises people to stay off the roads this weekend, especially as crews continue to work to clear covered areas.

If you do head out, AAA advises packing your car with essentials you may need if you get stranded. Those include extra warm clothes and blankets, along with a snowbrush, scraper, and shovel in the event you are able to dig yourself out.

Chabarria emphasized that, if you aren’t able to dig yourself out, you should stay in your vehicle until help arrives.

“Your vehicle is going to be more visible to drivers than you would be if you were standing outside. But also, even if your vehicle can’t run, you’re on the side of the road; you’re still going to be out of the elements,” Chabarria said. “You’re still going to be protected.”
