(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, a multi-mission aircraft (MMA) and a type 1 helicopter have been ordered.
Highway 94 is closed from Marksheffel Road to North Blaney Road east of the Colorado Spring Airport, according to COTrip.
UPDATE: THURSDAY 3/13/2025 2:15 p.m.
Evacuations have been ordered for Highway 94 and Franceville Coal Mine Road north to Davis Road and east to the eastern border of Schriever Space Force Base. Everyone in this area is ordered to evacuate immediately.
ORIGINAL STORY: CSFD responds to grass fire near airport
THURSDAY 3/13/2025 1:12 p.m.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) said crews are responding to a grass fire east of the Colorado Springs Airport on Thursday, March 13.
On Thursday at around 1 p.m., CSFD posted to social media that crews were responding to a grass fire east of the airport at South Meridian and Drennan Roads. CSFD said at the time there was no estimate on the size of the fire, and smoke was visible in the area.
"At this time, multiple fire departments are working this grass fire," wrote CSFD.
Anyone near Guffy Bluffs Point and Meridian Road north to Highway 94 and Franceville Coal Mine, and to the East border of Schriever Space Force Base has been ordered to evacuate immediately, per El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
Pre-evacuations have been ordered for Highway 94 and Franceville Coal Mine Road north to David Road, and east to the eastern border of Schriever Space Force Base in Ellicott.
If you are in danger, evacuate immediately. If you need extra time to evacuate, consider leaving now.
