OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- Four buildings in Oakland were evacuated on Tuesday afternoon due to a natural gas leak, the Oakland Fire Department said. The leak is no longer affecting the community and restrictions have been lifted, OFD Chief Damon Covington said.
The gas leak happened at a fueling station on 2nd Street between Market Street and Brush Street, OFD said.
Several blocks were closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic from Embarcadero West to 3rd Street along Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Market Street. Rail tracks near Jack London Square have reopened after previously closing.
The buildings being evacuated were commercial buildings, OFD said. About 50 people evacuated. PG&E went to the scene and shut down the main gas line.
