A $70,000 grant received by the El Cajon Police Department will be used to stop the sale of alcohol to minors and people who are obviously drunk, police announced Wednesday.

The grant from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is one of 50 awarded to law enforcement agencies in the state.

“This grant is beneficial to the city of El Cajon and will fund many police operations focusing on enforcement and education for alcohol related offenses occurring within the city of El Cajon,” said a statement from the ECPD Special Enforcement Unit.

Created in 1995, the Alcohol Policing Partnership was intended to bring ABC agents and local police officers together to enforce laws against selling alcohol to minors.
