(KRON) -- A section of an East Bay trail is finally set to reopen on Wednesday after it was closed since a mudslide occurred in 2016, the East Bay Regional Park District announced.
The part of the Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail between Canyon Road and Westchester Street will reopen after more than eight years.
“We are happy to be celebrating the reopening of the Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail with the community,” said East Bay Regional Park District General Manager Sabrina Landreth. “Regional trails such as the Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail serve an important role in the community, providing healthy recreation, green transportation alternatives, and safe routes to school for schoolchildren.”
The park district worked with the East Bay Municipal Utility District and the Town of Moraga to reconstruct the trail and stabilize slopes in the area. Moraga replaced the Canyon Road Bridge in 2020.
In full, the trail stretches 7.65 miles between Lafayette and Moraga. Birders, bicyclists hikers and horseback riders all use it.
The trail has entrances at Olympic Boulevard, St. Mary's Road, Lucille Lane and Moraga Road.
