Driver pleads guilty to manslaughter in fatal 2022 crash
Jealious Anthony Ordillano pled guilty to manslaughter in an October 2022 crash.
AUSTIN (KXAN) — The man facing a manslaughter charge in connection with a fatal 2022 crash in north Austin accepted a plea deal sentencing him to 12 months of deferred adjudication. Jealious Anthony Ordillano is also required to complete 80 hours of community service and a driver's safety course. The plea deal stated he has already completed the safety course.
According to the January 2023 arrest warrant, Ordillano ran a red light at the intersection of McCallen Pass and Center Lake Drive. His pickup truck struck a sedan driven by Jim Chan.
Records show Chan was taken to a hospital in Round Rock, and died a few days later from his injuries.
Ordillano was formally charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony. According to his arrest warrant affidavit, Ordillano was driving 62 miles per hour before the crash — 17 miles per hour higher than the 45 miles per hour speed limit on McCallan Pass.
The crash was Austin's 83rd fatal crash in 2022.
Deferred adjudication, commonly known as probation, allows a defendant to accept responsibility for a crime without an actual conviction going on record, as long as they meet the terms of the agreement.
