Dog stabbed, 2 men arrested in wild Manhattan animal attack

Two men were arrested and a husky was sent to the vet with a stab wound after the dog attacked a cleaner in Manhattan Friday morning, law enforcement sources told the Daily News.

A worker with the Union Square Partnership business improvement district was sweeping rubbish off the sidewalk near the corner of 14th St. and Fourth Ave. when the unleashed canine suddenly attacked him around 9 a.m., the source said.

The husky bit the BID worker twice before the man pulled a knife and stabbed the dog several times, according to the law enforcement source.

The fracas woke the dog’s owner, a homeless man who was dozing nearby, who also drew a knife before confronting the worker over his wounded pooch, said the source.

The pair exchanged words but did not attack each other.

Police responding to the animal attack arranged for the dog’s removal to the ASPCA Animal Hospital on the Upper East Side for treatment.

Both men were arrested, with the Union Square Partnership worker charged with cruelty to an animal and menacing, according to the law enforcement source.

The dog’s owner was cuffed for criminal possession of a weapon, the source said.

A spokeswoman for the ASPCA declined to comment citing the ongoing criminal case involving the animal.
