The Los Angeles Dodgers have revealed that World Series MVP Freddie Freeman had surgery on his right ankle Thursday morning, Dodgers Nation reports.
"Earlier today, Dodger first baseman Freddie Freeman underwent surgery on his right ankle consisting of debridement and the removal of loose bodies," the team stated.
The procedure was carried out by Dr. Kenneth Jung at Kerlan Jobe in Los Angeles.
The Dodgers anticipate that Freeman will be able to engage in baseball activities during spring training.
Freeman initially sprained his ankle in late September during a series against the San Diego Padres. He was expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks. However, Freeman returned to the lineup in less than two weeks for the National League Divisional Series and went on to dominate the World Series with homers in four straight games en route to winning the series MVP award.
