Los Angeles Dodgers fans, you can exhale now.
The Japanese superstar and near-certain National League MVP, Shohei Ohtani, is good to go for World Series Game 3 after suffering a shoulder injury on Saturday night.
The news comes from ESPN's Karl Ravech. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told the studio host and play-by-play man that Ohtani is "in a great spot and will be playing in game 3 [Monday].”
Ohtani partially dislocated his left shoulder during the seventh inning of Saturday's 4-2 win over the New York Yankees while sliding into second base on a failed steal attempt. He left the game in obvious pain, but apparently the injury was minor enough for him to return to action Monday.
Perhaps playing into the decision to play is the fact that Ohtani, 30, is purely an offensive player this year. The two-way superstar took this season off from pitching after having surgery on his throwing elbow in the offseason.
The Dodgers and Yankees traveled to New York after Game 2 on Saturday night, where Games 3, 4 and — if necessary — 5 will be played. Game 3 is set to start at 5:08 p.m. PST on Monday.
