Denver weather: October was the 2nd hottest recorded in history

DENVER (KDVR) -- Despite a cool end to the month, October 2024 was the second-hottest October ever recorded in Denver weather history.

This year, Denver saw the hottest start to fall ever recorded in history, and above-average temperatures stuck around through October.

The average temperature for the month, including low and high temperatures, was 59.1 degrees, making October 2024 the second warmest October on record. The hottest was in 1950 with an average temperature of 59.9 degrees.

Of the 31 days, 24 saw above-average high temperatures. Only two days had high temperatures that were below average, and the low temperatures were warmer than average too. The average high temperature during October in Denver ranges from 59 to 72 degrees, but this year the month brought several days with temperatures in the 80s.

October was about as dry as it was warm, with just two days recording more than a trace of moisture for a total rain measurement of 0.11 inches. That makes October 2024 the 12th driest ever recorded for the Denver area.

In November, Denverites can expect cooler temperatures and increased chances for snow. In fact, Monday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day due to potentially slushy roads and traffic impacts for the start of the workweek.
