DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver man was sentenced Monday to serve 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to a single count of second-degree murder in September in connection to the death of 31-year-old Michael Jones.
Jonathan Myers, 37, turned himself in to police on Jan. 18, 2023. He was accused of stabbing Jones on Jan. 17, 2023, in an apartment building in the 5000 block of North Broadway in Denver.
According to an arrest affidavit for Myers' arrest, he had been threatening and harassing residents of the apartment building that morning. Officers arrived at the apartment building at about 11:50 a.m., where they found Jones suffering from a stab wound to his neck.
Jones died just after midnight on Jan. 18, 2023, at Denver Health Medical Center.
Police conducted several interviews with witnesses, mostly apartment residents who had overheard the incident or had witnessed prior violent behavior. They told police that Myers had been arguing with Jones.
