Denver hits later-than-usual first freeze of the season
On Friday morning, temperatures cooled enough to hit 32 degrees -- the first freeze of the season in Denver and the coldest it has been in almost 200 days.

DENVER (KDVR) — On Friday morning, temperatures cooled enough to hit 32 degrees -- the first freeze of the season in Denver and the coldest it has been in almost 200 days.
Originally, the Pinpoint Weather team expected Denver to have its first freeze next week before Halloween. However, temperatures continued to drop by 6 a.m. Friday, and Denver officially hit 32 degrees at 6:14 a.m.
The last time Denver was this cold was in early May -- 174 days ago.
This year's first freeze comes weeks after the average first freeze in Denver. Usually, National Weather Service records show the first freeze occurs around Oct. 7, with freezes coming as early as Sept. 8 and as late as Nov. 15 in previous years.
This fall was the hottest start to the season on record, and Denver is expected to get one of the latest first snows in history, but temperatures are finally cooling down, at least at night.
While some Colorado mountains have already seen a few inches of snow during a weekend storm, Denver's first snow could be coming soon.
The Pinpoint Weather forecast shows temperatures reaching the high 70s during the start of next week, but those temperatures should cool by the end of the week, potentially bringing another freeze and Denver's first snow.
