Conn. man arrested after killing kitten because it was annoying him: police

A Connecticut man has been arrested and charged with malicious killing of an animal after confessing to a family member he killed a kitten because it was annoying him, authorities said Friday.

Krzystof Bakota, 47, of Shelton, was taking care of the cat for a family member while she was away, the Shelton Police Department said in a news release.

When she returned, Bakota told her the cat had gone missing. However, the kitten was later found dead in the backyard, police said.

An autopsy of the animal performed at the University of Connecticut’s Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory concluded the cat had multiple skull fractures with marked hemorrhage. It also found evidence of blunt force trauma.

The cat’s death was determined to be “trauma to the left body wall and pulmonary hemorrhage,” officials said, adding it was “highly improbable that the kitten was killed by another animal.”

According to police, Bakota has admitted to family members he had killed the cat.

He also told an unnamed family member that “the kitten was annoying him so he threw the kitten against a table and then threw the kitten off the back deck,” investigators said.

Bakota is being held on a $25,000 bond.  He’s expected to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court later on Friday.

Shelton is located in Fairfield County, just west of New Haven.
