A Colorado State Patrol trooper was airlifted to the hospital Wednesday after his patrol car was hit by a suspected drunken driver while the trooper was investigating a crash.

The trooper was in his vehicle in the intersection of Colorado 115 and Little Turkey Creek Road in El Paso County at around 3:44 p.m. when the other driver crashed into him, CSP officials said in a news release.

He was taken to the hospital with “possible serious injuries” and is expected to recover, according to the state patrol. The other driver remained at the scene and was also taken to the hospital.

The intersection is closed as the state patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit investigates the crash.

This is the 11th CSP vehicle struck by other drivers this year and the second this month, according to the agency.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
