Chula Vista Police to Conduct DUI Checkpoint Friday
The Chula Vista Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint Friday from 6 p.m. - 12 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Chula Vista.
The Chula Vista Police Department will conduct a checkpoint for driving under the influence (DUI) from 6 p.m. – 12 a.m. Friday at an undisclosed location in the city.
The locations are determined on data that shows incidents of impaired driving crashes. The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at a significant risk,” Agent Brian Carter said in a press release. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety.”
Impaired driving is not just from alcohol, as some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. Driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, including a suspended license.
