Investigators are trying to determine why a husband set off pursuit of his wife with both going the wrong way on Interstate 805.
At about 2 p.m. Thursday, a Range Rover driven by a 69-year-old female was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-805, from the Carroll Canyon Road High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) exit, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver’s 73-year-old husband, the CHP said, followed her in a Mercedes sedan, also moving south in the northbound lanes.
CHP San Diego Area personnel, with air support from the San Diego Police Department, responded and were able to stop and detain the drivers. Officials did not say how far the couple proceeded while going the wrong way.
A DUI evaluation was conducted but the CHP said drugs and/or alcohol were not a
contributing factor in the incident.
The sequence of events are under investigation. If any members of the
public witnessed the incident, they are asked to contact CHP San Diego Area at (858) 293-6000.
