Castle Point teen awaits bond hearing for 2023 QuikTrip murder
St. Louis County Circuit Court has scheduled a bond hearing Monday for an 18-year-old from Castle Point for a 2023 murder at a Hazelwood QuikTrip.
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – St. Louis County Circuit Court has scheduled a bond hearing Monday for an 18-year-old from Castle Point for a 2023 murder at a Hazelwood QuikTrip.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, the murder happened just before 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2023, in the 7400 block of North Lindbergh Boulevard.
Police said a black Acura pulled into the parking lot of the QuikTrip, with a red Dodge Avenger arriving a short time later.
Three people inside the Avenger began shooting at the Acura and the people inside that vehicle. Charles Carbon, a passenger in the Acura, sustained fatal injuries.
Police identified two of the shooters as Dakota Shelton and JaQuan Clarett.
Clarett was arrested and charged in November 2023. He’s currently awaiting trial and has a pre-trial conference scheduled for Jan. 17, 2025.
Meanwhile, Shelton, who was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, was arrested on Nov. 25.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Shelton with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. The court jailed Shelton on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Following Monday’s bond hearing, Shelton will be back in court on Dec. 18 for a preliminary hearing.
