Brooklyn man nabbed in stabbing death of 72-year-old deaf mom
Vadim Semenduyev, 51, was arrested Saturday, one day after police responding to a 911 call discovered his mother and brother stabbed.
The son of an elderly deaf woman stabbed to death in her Brooklyn apartment has been nabbed and charged with the murder, police said Monday.
Vadim Semenduyev, 51, was arrested Saturday, one day after police responding to a 911 call discovered his mother, Malka Semenduyeva, 72, and 47-year-old brother both suffering from multiple stab wounds in the family’s apartment on Bedford Ave. near Avenue U in Sheepshead Bay.
In NYPD body camera footage, Semenduyev was captured blurting out to cops, “I did it…I killed her,” according to the criminal complaint against him.
The younger brother told cops Semenduyev attacked him, stabbing him multiple times with a knife in the head, neck, back and shoulder while the two were in the kitchen, according to the complaint. The wounded brother said he left the kitchen to call 911 from another room and when he came back saw his mother “lying in a pool of blood,” the complaint says.
Medics rushed both victims to Coney Island Hospital, where Semenduyeva died. Her wounded son is expected to recover.
“The way it happened, we haven’t been able to sleep,” said Emilia Loginova, 38, who lives on the same floor as the victim.
“We’re all just devastated, crying, just anxious about it. She was one of the most kindest women that I’ve ever met. She was an angel, not a bad bone in her body, not even a bad thought. She couldn’t communicate but she could read my lips. I could read her lips so you just felt her energy. She was a beautiful, beautiful soul. And I think we just lost an angel.”
“No one deserves that, because she loves her son,” Loginova added. ‘She loved both of them.”
Neighbors described being scared of Semenduyev, who they said often acted erratically.
“If I get in here and he’s waiting for the elevator I never go in,” said neighbor Selica Smith, 41. “I’m terrified of that man. I’m not lying.”
Semenduyev has seven prior arrests on his record, one for drug possession and the rest for petty larceny, according to NYPD.
On Feb. 13, Semenduyev was arrested in Brooklyn for assault, menacing, harassment and weapon possession for an incident that happened today. He was released without bail in that case, which is ongoing.
He is now charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon and was ordered held without bail when he was arraigned in Brooklyn Criminal Court Monday.
In 2019, Semenduyev was reported missing by his family. He was subsequently found and had been living in the Sheepshead Bay apartment with his mother and brother.
Multiple neighbors told the Daily News they often heard loud arguments and screaming coming from the family’s apartment. Neighbors reported calling 911 numerous times but said nothing came of their frequent calls.
